In 2018 the Australian Antarctic Division engaged VEC Civil Engineering Pty Ltd as the Managing Contractor to manage the design and construction of the new research station and field-huts to meet the defined functional design brief requirements of the Australian Antarctic Program. Construction and commissioning of the new research station and renewal of the field-hut network is to be completed by late 2022.
VEC Civil Engineering Pty Ltd (VEC), with a head office based at Ulverstone in Tasmania’s North West, will be responsible for the design and construction of the new research station, which forms part of the total project cost of $50 million.
VEC initially is contracted to deliver the planning phase through the engagement of multiple design engineering and architectural consultants. The new station is expected to be significantly more efficient than the existing station and designed to minimise operating and maintenance costs.
